How medals are mounted

Court mounting (preferred) is where a medals are mounted on a stiff board which has a broach pin at the rear. This mount suspends the overlapped medals in place to stop them 'clanging' against each and causing damage. The ribbon is extended behind the medal when court mounted.

Swing mounting is where the medals are suspended by the ribbon from a broach pin or other attachment. These medals are free to 'swing' and do hit each other which can cause damage.

Miniatures and full sized

There are normally two sizes of each medal created. Full-sized medals are usually worn on service dress or to daytime events. Miniature medals are normally worn with evening dress, such as mess dress and for black tie events.

Who can wear medals?

The recipient of the medals can wear Commonwealth medals at the left of chest. Although not official, it is widely accepted that a descendent of someone who was awarded medals can wear them on the opposite side to show that the medals are not their own.
