Description

The Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) Military Division is a highly respected accolade that honours individuals for their meritorious service and contributions to the Australian community. Granted by the Governor-General of Australia, upon the advice of the Council for the Order of Australia, this esteemed medal serves to recognise achievements in a wide array of fields, from community service and philanthropy to arts and sciences.

Design

The central design motif for the medal is a mimosa flower head, crafted into a convex disc. This design is the cornerstone for all categories of the Order of Australia, including the associated lapel pins. The emblem is consistent across both the General and Military Divisions, maintaining a uniform appearance without any distinguishing features between the two.

Ribbon

The ribbon accompanying the medal features a royal blue background, highlighted by a central band of gold mimosa blossoms. These colours were carefully chosen to reflect Australia's national palette at the time the order was established. The full-sized ribbon for the Medal of the Order of Australia has a width of 32 millimetres. The ribbon of the Military Division is of the same design as the General Division, but edged with gold bands 1.5 millimetres wide.

Lapel Pin

The OAM is represented with a lapel pin for day to day use. Click here for more information: OAM Lapel Pin.
