Description

The Philippines Military Merit Medal is a distinguished military decoration awarded by the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Established in 1935, this medal serves as recognition of heroic achievement or meritorious service rendered not only by members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines but also by allied forces including Australian and British military personnel who have significantly contributed to the defense and welfare of the Republic of the Philippines.

Eligibility for the Philippines Military Merit Medal requires the following:

  • Active service in the Armed Forces of the Philippines, or service in allied forces, including Australian and British military personnel, participating in joint operations with the Philippines
  • Display of heroic achievement or meritorious service in military operations that have directly benefited the Republic of the Philippines
  • Observance of high standards of conduct and performance of duty

This distinctive 35-millimeter-diameter medal features a design rich in symbolism. The obverse of the medal showcases three stars, signifying the three main geographical divisions of the Philippines: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The stars are surrounded by a wreath, symbolizing honor and achievement. The reverse side bears the inscription 'FOR MILITARY MERIT'.

The accompanying ribbon, 35 millimeters wide, is blue with a single, central red stripe. The blue represents loyalty and justice, while the red stands for courage and patriotism.

Recipients of the Philippines Military Merit Medal, whether they belong to the Armed Forces of the Philippines or are part of the allied Australian and British forces, bear an enduring recognition of their heroic achievements or meritorious service to the Republic of the Philippines. This award serves as a lasting testament to their extraordinary commitment and dedication to their duty.

Unmounted Medals

If you order your medal unmounted, the medal and ribbon will be supplied as separate components. Miniature medals will be supplied with 15cm of ribbon and full size medals will be supplied with 30cm of ribbon.

Philippines Military Merit Medal Full Size Court Mounted

The court mounting of medals involves securing medals to a stiff backing board, along with the placement of a brooch fitting on the board. This ensures that the medals remain firmly in place and do not shift or move about while being worn.

It is mandatory for active members of the Australian Defence Force to have their medals court mounted, as it is considered the appropriate method of presenting military honours in a professional and respectful manner. By doing so, the medals are given proper recognition and are displayed in a neat and organized fashion.

A ribbon bar is a small, rectangular display of ribbons worn on military uniforms to represent various honours and awards earned by the wearer. These ribbons are arranged in a specific order and are attached to a backing, which is then attached to the uniform. Ribbon bars are a compact and convenient way for military personnel to display their achievements and are often used in situations where a full-sized medal or award would be impractical.
