Description

The Timor-Leste Solidarity Medal is a foreign military award presented by the government of Timor-Leste (formerly known as East Timor) to recognize the service of foreign military personnel and civilians who have contributed to the stabilization, peacekeeping, and development efforts in the country. The medal was instituted in 2009 as a symbol of gratitude for the support provided by foreign forces and individuals who assisted in the establishment and maintenance of peace, security, and stability in Timor-Leste during and after its struggle for independence.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Timor-Leste Solidarity Medal, personnel must have been serving members of foreign military forces or civilians who have been engaged in peacekeeping, humanitarian, or developmental activities in Timor-Leste. The award is open to personnel from various countries who have made significant contributions to the country's stabilization and development.

Design

The medal is designed as a circular, gold-colored medallion, featuring the coat of arms of Timor-Leste on the obverse, surrounded by the inscription "REPÚBLICA DEMOCRÁTICA DE TIMOR-LESTE" (Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste). The reverse of the medal displays the words "MEDALHA DA SOLIDARIEDADE" (Solidarity Medal) within a wreath of laurel leaves, symbolizing victory and achievement.

Ribbon

The red stripes represent the struggle for independence and the sacrifices made by the people of Timor-Leste, the yellow stripes signify the country's cultural heritage, the black stripes represent the resilience of the people, and the white stripes symbolize peace and hope for the future.

The court mounting of medals involves securing medals to a stiff backing board, along with the placement of a brooch fitting on the board. This ensures that the medals remain firmly in place and do not shift or move about while being worn.

It is mandatory for active members of the Australian Defence Force to have their medals court mounted, as it is considered the appropriate method of presenting military honours in a professional and respectful manner. By doing so, the medals are given proper recognition and are displayed in a neat and organized fashion.
